The Fear Street trilogy is still Netflix’s best movie series

When it comes to movie series, Netflix has some really successful originals under their belt. From To all the boys I’ve loved before trilogy to The kissing booth movies, the streamer does a great job of introducing wonderful characters that viewers want to keep watching for multiple episodes. Obviously, they’ve mastered the rom-com genre, but they’ve also pleasantly surprised many with their street of fear trilogy released in July 2021.

With the exception of stranger things, Netflix really wasn’t a strong streaming service for horror movies and shows. While they’ve added some great ones to the platform, they haven’t lived up to their original lineup. That started to change, however, with Mike Flanagan The haunting series, his most recent show Midnight Mass and of course the street of fear movies.

2021 has been a game-changer for the genre on Netflix, and the street of fear The trilogy still stands out as the best original movie series the streamer has ever created. Each installment — Fear Street: 1994, Fear Street: 1978 and Fear Street: 1666 – takes place in the same fictional Ohio town, Shadyside, which is said to be cursed.

Netflix Life is celebrating “The Besties” this week – an awards show where we highlight Netflix’s best, worst and craziest moments over the past year – and we must make time to celebrate street of fear.

Netflix wins with the Fear Street trilogy

The films, based on the book series of the same name by RL Stine, were shot back-to-back and were originally scheduled to be released once a month in theaters. With COVID-19 throwing a wrench in those plans, however, Netflix acquired the rights and released the weekly installments, making for some seriously fun summer programming amid a pandemic.

The trilogy was something to look forward to and each film really delivered. Looking back at 2021, the street of fear The series was a big highlight for me and for many others.

Although the trilogy is based on a YA book series, the movies are rated R and for good reason. They’re bloody and feature some super original kills that any horror fan would appreciate. Corn street of fear is not only for horror fans. The story of each movie is genuinely heartfelt, engaging, and just plain fun. Viewers will recognize actors Gillian Jacobs and Ashley Zukerman, who play prominent roles, and fall in love with Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch and Benjamin Flores Jr., rising stars who star in each film.

Also, I can’t not mention the music of this series. Because each episode is set in a different era, they really play into the nostalgia and include some of the greatest songs, fashion trends, and nods to other horror films from the era. Well, that’s true with 1994 and 1978 at least, which feature songs like “Hey” by The Pixies, “Creep” by Radiohead, “The Man Who Sold the World” by Nirvana, and “Cherry Bomb” by The Runaways. .

Each street of fear film is directed by Leigh Janiak (Honeymoon), who is actually married to Ross Duffer, the co-creator of stranger things. Movies definitely have a stranger things vibe, and we recommend the trilogy to anyone who loves the Netflix series.

street of fear isn’t the strongest horror movie series ever, but it’s definitely one of the best things Netflix has done in a very long time.
