Petrifying twists in the plot of the film that everyone frankly saw coming

The audience is kept guessing throughout a solid thriller film. However, it can be difficult to execute a well-crafted film that both makes sense and avoids revealing the main reveal too soon. Here are some plot twists from the film that moviegoers have spotted from a mile away:

1. The Irishman

Epic crime drama based on the 2004 non-fiction “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt.

Another true crime movie, The Irishman has no qualms about making up his own mind about the identity of the culprit. The mafia film follows Frank, a low-level mobster played by Robert De Niro, who befriends American labor leader Jimmy Hoffa, played by Al Pacino. The plot twists are not whether or not Hoffa will be killed, but rather how he will die. Despite their friendship and the lack of historical evidence, it’s clear from the start that Frank will ultimately be the one to pull the punch.

2. Justice League

One of the most predictable plot twists: Superman returns.
Lowest-grossing DC movie: Justice League.

Almost everyone expected Superman to return in Justice League. Henry Cavill’s return was a foregone conclusion and he featured prominently in the trailers. The only uncertainty was whether he would be good or bad when he returned. It was obvious from the start of the film, with Mother Boxes as the focus, how the team would bring him back. He fought the team for a few minutes after being restored, then reverted to his heroic Superman form. Not only did his death in Batman vs Superman seem insane, but the storyline was also unsurprising.

3. The Woman at the Window

One of the most predictable twists in the plot: the revelation of the murderer in this film

The Woman in the Window, a popular Netflix thriller, features an all-star cast of superb actors, the majority of whom are wasted on a bland narrative. Adams portrays an agoraphobic woman who believes she sees her neighbor murdered, only to have her sanity questioned. While the idea of whether or not this troubled woman dreamed it all is raised, the film never really explores that possibility, and it’s clear there are plot twists. The fact that they cast a 20-year-old actor to play the teenage neighbor also adds to the suspicion that he is the murderer.

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

One of the most predictable plot twists: Nick Fury is not dead
One of the most predictable plot twists of all time: Nick Fury is not dead.

From the minute we meet Nick Fury, he’s portrayed as the perfect spy who’s always on top of everything. When the Winter Soldier attacks Nick Fury, it’s one of the first moments we see him. Later, he is shot by the Winter Soldier while trying to tell Steve how S.H.I.E.L.D. has been compromised. However, even after seeing his heart stop, no one in the audience believes that Nick Fury is dead. It’s nice to have the crew together when the big twists happen and they’re alive, but that’s no surprise.

5. Red Dragon

Where we first meet Hannibal Lecter.
Where we first meet Hannibal Lecter: Red Dragon.

The forerunner Red Dragon, while lesser known than The Silence of the Lambs, is a highly engaging thriller starring Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. Along with Hopkins, Edward Norton plays Will Graham, an FBI agent tasked with tracking down Dolarhyde, a dangerous serial killer. Dolarhyde appears to commit suicide after setting his residence on fire in the final scene. But it doesn’t take much to figure out what happens when the main villain dies off-screen without any evidence. Dolarhyde lives, and before he is killed for real, he tries to kill Will.
