Breakfast at S’pore? Here’s how to recreate iconic movie scenes with the 1-for-1 GrabFood Blockbuster offers. – Mothership.SG

There are many iconic scenes in classic movies and shows, some of which my colleagues and I can recite with ease and perfect timing.

Through our many lively conversations, I realize that there is something aficionados often overlook when talking about movies – scenes involving food.

Sure, shootouts are fun and the ever-improving CGI continues to amaze me every time, but it’s the on-screen foodie that fascinates me.

I mean, I even Googled the Big Kahuna Burger to find out if it really existed after watching Pulp Fiction.

And yes, I get annoyed every time movie characters come out on a table full of breakfast.

So when I received this brief, I had lots of ideas.

I worked with a few colleagues who suggested some pretty interesting scenes that we could recreate on a budget, and of course, the very handy GrabFood, which has its GrabFood Blockbuster Sale until December 12 (Thanks guys!).

Let’s get right to the point.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Holly Golightly stared at a jeweler’s window while eating a croissant and drinking coffee from a paper cup. She was yearning for her dream diamonds, while I, uh, wished I had thicker hair so the party tiara was more obvious on my head.

Much of the look wasn’t expensive – it was recreated with accessories bought from Daiso and costume jewelry that my coworker Melanie had. Golightly didn’t have GrabFood or Flash Coffee at the time, but I think she would enjoy their chocolate Nutella Latte and Pain au Chocolat pastry.

Want to taste the glamor of Golightly? Flash Coffee has a Promotion 1 for 1 for their Nutella Latte for S $ 6.30 (UP: S $ 12.60) on GrabFood.

The lady and the tramp

Doing this was DIFFICULT. Instead of spaghetti with meatballs, we had aglio olio instead. As you may know, this meant that the dish contained fresh chili, so our mouths started to burn while posing for the photo.

My poor colleague Jonathan must have stuffed a bite of spaghetti in his mouth to look more like Tramp, so he probably did worse.

It was also very embarrassing, but probably because we are not two dogs and I was not the magnificent beauty that is the Lady. 0/10 not romantic at all, but 10/10 will recommend eating spaghetti. Swensen’s is getting 50% off its S $ 8.45 Aglio Olio Spaghetti Meal (S $ 16.90), which also includes a non-alcoholic drink.

Eat Pray Love

Oh yeah, everyone’s favorite movie about taking a sabbatical, eating right, and finding the love of a lifetime.

I didn’t have access to a vacation or the love of my life (if you see that, call me), but I could at least imitate Julia Roberts with a piece of Domino’s Hawaiian pizza and a crispy mouth.

Excuse me for not having her beautiful voluminous hair; the only thing I have in common with her is our love for pizza.

Here’s how you too can have a relationship with your pizza: Domino’s is offering a 50% promotion on its Party Combo, with one regular pizza, one large pizza, one marbled cookie brownie and four cans of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar for S $ 45.15 (UP: S $ 90.30)

Harry potter

When we figured out which scene would be the best, we realized that while the fried chicken was iconic, finding an iconic scene was actually quite difficult. Finally, we managed to find a scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, where a young and precocious Ron Weasley gorges himself on chicken at the welcome feast.

I called on my colleague Jonathan for this one. Being quite natural, he easily understood the expressions and the pose, but felt rather aware of his hair. “If I did a parting in the middle I would look horrible,” he said.

Fortunately, after a bit of photoshop magic, Jonathan has never looked more like a Weasley in his life.

Without Photoshop or that red head, you can still feel like a Weasley while feasting like one. Popeye’s offers a 50% 6 + 4 package, which includes six pieces of chicken, four fillets and two large mashed potatoes for S $ 20.90 (UP: S $ 41.80).

So delicious, it’s magic.

crazy rich asians

Arguably one of the most recognizable food scenes in recent memory, where Nick and Rachel dine at the Newton Food Center with Nick’s best friend and funded.

Since we could only get together for work, we recreated the scene with several local dishes using Lor Mee, Laksa from EAT, and Crispy Pork Corn Rice from A-One. We also used other food items to fill the table. Sorry, no Crazy Rich Asian to help us out here.

Fun fact, the white tank top my colleague Andrew wears belongs to Jonathan’s grandfather (in yellow). Thanks, Ah Gong.

Recreate Your Crazy Rich Asian Dinner Here With A-One Signature 1-for-1 Pork Crispy Corn Rice for S $ 13.90 (UP: S $ 27.80) and this fantastic Blockbuster set from EAT., Which gives you a main course (choose from noodles) minced meat, Lor Mee or Laksa) and a drink can for S $ 5 (UP: S $ 10).
