5 Serious Movie Scenes That Moviegoers Can’t Stop Laughing About

Some people find it hard to keep a straight face when watching serious scenes in movies. Moments deemed too funny to be serious include those from the classic 2000s romantic drama Titanicthe same worthy War Zand the big-budget franchise launcher Divergent. And that’s only the beginning.

During her maiden voyage, the unsinkable vessel sank. But this movie was mostly about a love story between a high-class young woman and an unlucky man who won a cruise ticket in a poker game. In the end, Rose opts for a new life, taking the name of her lover (now deceased) to live her life as she sees fit.

At the climax of the film, the ship began to sink and people were sliding onto the dock. Many Reddit users found it amusing. One commented that “a couple of them hit the railing and dove into a spinning motion until they died. I’m sure that wasn’t meant to be funny…”.

Another user received a glare from a friend with his in-theatre comment when the blockbuster debuted. “I leaned over and whispered that [the people] looked like Plinko chips. She turned to me, tears streaming down her face, and said there was a time and a place for everything, and now was not the time and the place!

“Final Destination” (2000)

Watching Final destination can make you think about all the dangerous things around you. It can also make you believe in a higher power that controls death, especially how and when we die. The 2000s thriller certainly had many viewers contemplating their fate, but not everyone found it scary.

“I don’t think the first one was meant to be funny, but I laughed my ass off,” one horror franchise user wrote. “The sequels embraced the ridiculous, but I think the premiere was meant to be serious.”

Others found specific deaths amusing and unbelievable. “My friend and I watched it at the theater and when the girl got hit by the bus we burst out laughing,” wrote another. “No regrets were expressed. To this day, I’m still laughing.

This cliffhanger movie centers around a viral outbreak turning people into zombies. The main character Gerry searches the world for the key to the vaccine. Eventually, the team learns that zombies don’t like already infected humans and leave them alone. This gives them enough time to start developing the vaccine they need.

The scene above, where Brad Pitt’s character encounters one of the zombies, has several Redditors cracking up. “My sister and I were at the theater and we both started laughing,” one wrote. “Then [the] the guy who was on a date behind us started laughing.

“Oddly enough, it kind of became a running joke between my wife and me,” added another. Whenever there’s a prolonged silence between us, I start doing this chattering of my teeth and it always elicits a chuckle.

“Taken” (2008)

Lying to your parents is never a good thing, especially if your dad is a hostage negotiator (and a badass). Liam Neeson’s beloved franchise may focus on his character rescuing his daughter from a sex-trafficking ring, but not everyone can take a scene entirely seriously.

“I saw Taken in a Baltimore theater and this lady started laughing during the electrocution torture scene,” one Reddit user wrote. “His laughter grew until it was above the scream of laughter when he flipped the switch and walked out. So embarrassing.

Not all future dystopian films translate perfectly. Shailene Woodley may have earned her place in Hollywood in the franchise, but many found her goofy, to say the least. “My god this movie is so stupid,” wrote one Reddit user. I had to try my best not to laugh.

Despite the grief it brought to Tris, one user spoke out about the moment her father died in a shooting. “The way it’s filmed makes it look like he just died for the sake of dying,” they wrote.
