10 recent horror movie scenes that are too disturbing to watch

Most of us are fine with a little gore, a fear of the jump or two, and the occasional existential theme. Being able to dive into those moments without being immersed in the deep end allows that adrenaline rush that so many of us crave while watching a horror movie, without making us feel like we want to curl up and cry. uncontrollably.

Horror movies often have to strike a balance between exploring these more extreme modes of terror and being watchable – or at least those that do well at the box office. Sometimes, however, even the most tame horror movies can surprise us with something downright vile.

In lists like these, the same films tend to pop up: A Serbe Film, Saló, Antichrist or The Girl Next Door. Don’t get me wrong, these are indeed very disturbing and deeply upsetting, but given that these movies have been in the spotlight for quite some time, I thought we should discuss some lesser-known ones.

For this list, films released over the past decade will be considered, with well-known films and independent gems woven into it as well.

It goes without saying that this list may contain topics that some readers may find disturbing.

After the 2017 episode of the Saw franchise disappointed fans of the saga (and casual viewers who had a good scare and received nothing of the sort), people were cautiously optimistic for the 2021 film. .

The Chris Rock-led film turned out to be another disappointment for many, but there was one remarkable moment – whether that moment was enjoyable or not, however, is up for debate.

The first trap actually occurs in the opening scene, which sets the tone for the film which unfortunately was not followed. It’s one hell of a trap though, and quite possibly one of the bloodiest Saw traps in the entire series.

Detective Bozwick finds himself in a trap, after chasing what he thought was an ordinary thief at a fun fair, where he is standing on a chair in an underground tunnel with his hands behind his back. Oh yeah, and his tongue is in a vise. Due to its corrupt nature and lying tongue, the trap designer saw (pun intended) that it was entirely appropriate that the offending organ be removed.

The sequence of grimacing that follows is extremely uncomfortable to watch, with some amazing special effects that make it feel like it’s too real. You can practically to feel
tearing of tissue. Yuck.
